An exciting opportunity to join the Trusts Programme Management Office team has arisen on an interim basis for a project manager band 8a

What are we looking for?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Project Manager with a strong clinical understanding to join the Trust PMO team.  

Main duties of the job

The post will be responsible for managing and leading a complex programme of projects within the portfolio, providing assurance, ensuring delivery and providing advice including;

  • Service improvement projects which result in fundamental changes in the delivery of Trust services
  • Quality improvement and cost improvement projects
  • CCG contracted improvement projects
  • Implementation of clinical interventions to improve patient safety
  • Conducting service level and staffing model options appraisals
  • User adoption programmes
  • Facilitation of cross departmental working
  • Procurement projects

You will be;

  • educated to degree level or equivalent with evidence of continuing professional and personal development
  • a qualified Prince 2 practitioner
  • experienced in managing projects using an accepted project management methodology
  • experienced in leading a project team, and supplier management
  • skilled in change management and have experience in process mapping and budget monitoring.

Desirable skills include experience of managing a large-scale procurement project and benefits realisation

It is envisaged that the future ways of working will be agile working, with 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home (subject to change and service demand).

About our locations:

Tooting (Wandsworth)

Our Trust headquarters is located within the impressive grounds of Springfield University Hospital in Tooting and we also operate in nearly 100 other locations throughout the UK.  This is easily accessible via the Northern Line (Tooting Bec Station) and via private transport.  The Trust provides subsidised parking fares for all our substantive staff.  Our main site is located immediately next to Tooting High Street where staff can easily access a range of shops, cafés and restaurants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder will be part of a trust wide Digital Services Programme who are responsible for supporting, and or delivering projects towards the Trusts strategic objectives.

The postholder will manage a portfolio of digital programmes and projects to implement the Trust’s digital programme and to meet local and national targets and the digital strategy.

To be responsible for effective delivery of projects: project initiation; formulation of business cases, formulation and management of project plans; procurement, contract negotiation, managing the production of deliverables, managing project budget, ensuring effective communication, ensuring quality assurance, ensuring that Project Boards are serviced, writing and presentation of management reports, capturing lessons-learned, risk management, benefit management and project closure.

To be a leader within the Digital project team, which will include working with the Associate Director, Senior Digital Programme Manager and Digital Services Team to develop and assure processes that enable the team to be a centre of excellence for project management.

  • • Demonstrable experience of managing projects using an accepted project management methodology (e.g. PRINCE2)
  • • Experience of project implementation
  • • Experience of leading a project team, managing or supervising staff
  • • Experience of supplier management
  • • Experience of monitoring budgets
  • • Experience of process mapping, analysis and redesign
  • • Experience of change management
  • • Experience of working across organisational boundaries
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience or understanding of working for health and/or services, particularly mental health services
  • • Experience of managing a large scale procurement project
  • • Experience of benefits realisation


Essential criteria
  • • Educated to degree level or equivalent
