This is an exciting time to join our Trust. South West London St. Georges is at the beginning of an exciting journey of transforming our community mental health services. In 2021/22 the Trust will benefit from significant investment in community mental teams to strengthen provision across all our boroughs. Over the course of the next three years we will work with our community partners to establish integrated delivery hubs bringing together primary and secondary health teams with voluntary sector providers across each of our boroughs, beginning with Sutton in 2021.

TITLE OF POST – Non Medical Approved Clinician (NMAC) Band 8 C permanent

The Community Rehabilitation Team will work with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders to support functional, active and socially inclusive support.

Main duties of the job

About the role:

  • The Consultant level Mental Health Practitioner will be a very senior clinician with a core professional qualification such as a Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Consultant Psychologist. They will provide highly specialised clinical care within the Community Rehabilitation Team, using advanced clinical knowledge that is evidenced based and within their specific professional skill set. 

 

  • The Consultant Practitioner will function independently and within the Community Rehabilitation team and will demonstrate competence complimentary to the doctor’s role in the delivery of health care.

 

  • Provide expert advice to ensure the needs of the patient are met by leading, challenging and changing practice within the clinical setting.

 

  • Maintain approval to act in the role of Responsible Clinician, as defined in the Mental Health Act 1983 revision 2007, for a specific caseload of patients under the Community Rehabilitation Team and hold accountability for the delivery of care and clinical decisions made.

The Community Rehabilitation Team is a newly formed service delivering evidence based interventions to promote recovery and support to clients with complex needs across South West London. Community Rehabilitation Team will strive to support people in their recovery journey to progress to the next stage of their individual goals and hopes.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical professional for a minimum of six years, including at least 3 years post qualification experience within the designated specialty where the post is located (Community Rehabilitation Team)
  • • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • • Experience of supervised provision of evidence-based interventions for people with complex and enduring serious mental health problems
  • • Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision
  • • Must have minimum 6 years post qualification practice at senior level of profession e.g. Post-qualification training in provision of evidence based psychological therapies relevant to the treatment of mental health complex needs
  • • Have extensive clinical caseload management experience of patients who may or may not be managed under the MHA. You will carry a clinical caseload and will be the Responsible Clinician for those under your care.
  • • Experience of working with mental health complexity across a wide range of diagnosi
  • • Ability to focus on ensuring that patients on your caseload always receive person centred care and are managed safely, effectively and with compassion is a priority. As the Responsible Clinician you will lead, coordinate and deliver care and complete all statutory duties required.
  • • Must be experienced clinical supervisor capable of delivering required time as outlined by relevant professional registered body.
Desirable criteria
  • • Formal training in providing supervision to the relevant professional group involved – Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Nursing.
  • • Experienced at working as an AC or RC
  • • Managing a caseload as an AC or RC
  • • Experience of safe practice as AC or RC in managing patients as required under the MHA.
  • • Active member of AC London wide network
  • • Experience and working knowledge of mental health prescribing guidelines where relevant, appropriate and clinically safe.
  • • Experience of clinical caseload involvement and management at senior level.
  • • Formal training in leadership or equivalent
  • • Experience of senior clinical leadership.
  • • Experience of working at senior level within MPT.
  • • Specific experience of supervised provision of CBT, MBT, DBT or other forms of evidence-based psychological treatments relevant to the management of mental health complexity
  • • Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical staff in providing psychological interventions to mental health complexity that requires a rehabilitation intervention and approach

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Must have minimum 6 years post qualification practice at senior level of profession e.g. Post-qualification training in provision of evidence based psychological therapies relevant to the treatment of mental health complex needs.
  • • Must be registered with professional body as required HCPC, SWEng, BPS, NMC.
  • • Must be qualified AC
  • • All RC have completed AC training.
  • • Must be C58 approved under the MHA 1983 and 2007.
Desirable criteria
  • • Working knowledge of the 8 AC Core Compentencies as set out by the DoH and experience of practice in these domains
  • • Experience and working knowledge of rehabilitation and recovery within Mental Health.
  • • Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders as a leader of care delivery.
